The adoption of an amended Directive on taxation of savings, the review of the Council’s position on the Single Resolution Mechanism for banks (SRM), with a view to finalising negotiations with the European Parliament, the follow-up to the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ meeting in Sydney and the economic elements of the EU 2030 energy and climate framework are the main topics of the ECOFIN Council on 11 March, under the presidency of the Greek Minister of Finance, Yannis Stournaras.

Central securities depositories: Council confirms agreement with EP

The Permanent Representatives Committee today approved, on behalf of the Council, an agreement reached with the European Parliament on new rules aimed at improving safety in the securities settlement system and at opening the market for central securities depositories (CSD) services.

Greek Presidency to represent the EU at the G20 meeting in Sydney (21-23 February)

The G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting on 21-23 February in Sydney is the first G20 Finance meeting of 2014 where the Council is represented by the Greek Presidency. The EU is also represented by the European Commission and the European Central Bank. Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Christina Papaconstantinou, heads the Presidency delegation.

Agreement strengthening EU’s fight against tax fraud and tax evasion signed (17.02.2014)

An Agreement between the European Union and the French Republic concerning the application to the collectivity of Saint-Barthélemy of Union legislation on the taxation of savings and administrative cooperation in the field of taxation was signed today, by ECOFIN President, Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras, the French Finance Minister Pierre Moscovici on behalf of the collectivity of Saint-Barthélemy and Commissioner Algirdas Semeta on behalf of the European Commission.
