An in-depth discussion of the results of the European elections at the Informal EU General Affairs Council (Athens, 30 May 2014)

Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Kourkoulas chaired today’s Informal EU General Affairs Council, which was hosted by the Greek Presidency in the wake of the European elections.

The proceedings of the Informal General Affairs Council began with a recommendation from Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos regarding the recent elections for the Members of European Parliament.

Informal EU General Affairs Council (Athens, 30.05.2014)

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos will give the opening address at the informal EU General Affairs Council being held today (30.05.2014) at Zappeion Megaron in Athens.

The General Affairs Council, chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Kourkoulas, will look at, among other things, issues concerning the prospect of achieving an inter-institutional agreement between the main organs of the European Union, as well as the issue of enhancing the General Affairs Council’s role within the European Union.

COMPET Council concludes in Brussels (26.05.2014)

A ministerial meeting of the EU Council on Competitiveness, chaired by Deputy Minister of Competitiveness and Development, Notis Mitarachi, was held in Brussels today (26.05.2014). The meeting discusses issues related to Internal Market and Industry.

The Council approved the following texts: a) a draft decision and b) a draft regulation of the Council for the establishment of implementing measures for the system of own resources of the EU, an issue of particular significance for the ratification of the budget of the European Union, as own resources must correspond to expenses.

Cultural heritage and Sports institutions discussed at EYCS Council in Brussels

Important decisions on cultural heritage and sports institutions were taken at a Council of Culture and Sports Ministers of the European Union, chaired by Greek Minister of Culture and Sports, Panos Panagiotopoulos, in Brussels, on 21 May 2014.

The enhancement of cultural heritage as a valuable tool for promoting economic growth in European countries and strengthening social cohesion, was one of the main issues of the Council of Culture Ministers.

EYCS Council in Brussels (20-21.05.2014) – Day 2

The second day of the Ministerial Council on Education, Youth, Culture and Sport (EYCS) (Culture & Sport), chaired by Minister of Culture and Sports, Panos Panagiotopoulos, is taking place today (21.05.2014), in Brussels. 

Culture Ministers are expected to adopt for the first time Conclusions related to cultural heritage as a strategic resource towards a sustainable Europe. The Conclusions underline the crucial role of cultural heritage to economic development and social cohesion, especially in a period of economic crisis which affects all Europe.
