The Deputy minister attached to the Prime Minister & Government Spokesperson responsible for Audiovisual Affairs (TV, radio, internet), Simos Kedikoglou, will present tomorrow, Tuesday 21 January, at the CULT Committee of the European Parliament, the relevant priorities of the Greek Presidency of the EU Council.

The Greek Presidency will work on the following issues:

1. The adoption of a new Council Decision concerning the signing, on behalf of the Union, of “the European Convention on the legal protection of services based on, or consisting of, conditional access” of the Council of Europe, following the relevant decision of the Court of the European Union.

2. The results of three European Public Consultations on a) promotion of the independence of regulatory authorities competent for audiovisual services, b) preparation for a full convergence in the audiovisual world (Connected TV): growth, creation and values, c) promotion media freedom and pluralism.

3. Organization in Athens, on 14-15 April 2014, of a Conference entitled "Protection of minors in the digital era", which will host representatives of EU institutions, the Council of Europe and other international organizations, the public administrations of European countries, regulatory authorities, the academia, market stakeholders etc.

The Council of Ministers for Education, Youth, Culture (and Audiovisual) and Sport will take place on May 20-21, 2014, in Brussels. The Council of Ministers for Culture and Audiovisual affairs will be held on 21 May 2014.
