12 Hours for Greece is an initiative launched by a group of Belgian and Greek citizens established in Brussels aimed at addressing to the Greek people a sign of solidarity and friendship. The event attracts each year over 2,500 people, and is widely publicised in Belgian, Greek and international media. The 2014 event will be organised under the auspices of the Greek Presidency of the European Union.
The objective of the event is twofold : Firstly, to present a lively and positive image of Greece and its people, on the occasion of a cultural and festive event; secondly, to support financially a charity project (past beneficiaries include Hamogelo tou Paidiou, Médecins sans Frontières-Greece, Make a Wish-Greece and ELEPAP, the Hellenic association for handicapped children). The benefits of the 2014 edition will go to associations supported by the International Foundation for Greece.
The 2014 edition includes a live reading of Homer’s Iliad (200 readers), debates, masterclasses in Greek cooking, a live reading of the Letter to Greco by George Corraface, and two exceptional concerts with reknown artists such as Lavrentis Machairitsas, Aléka Kanellidou, Giannis Zouganelles, Panos Mouzourakis, Alexandra Gravas, Petros Bouras and Andreas Boutsikakis.
