The Joint Meeting of Chief Medical Officers, Chief Nursing Officers and Chief Dental Officers will take place in Athens on 4th – 5th March 2014. Given that the impact of infectious diseases in public health is a cross-cutting issue, the key topic of this meeting is the challenges posed by emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, rabies and antimicrobial resistance.
Moreover, the Chief Medical Officers of Europe will have the opportunity to discuss about the effective protection of immigrants’ health, while the Chief Nursing Officers will discuss about a wide range of issues of common interest, including reporting of workplace injuries, migration of nurses and effective nurse leadership.
The Chief Dental Officers will contribute signifi-cantly to the dialogue about anti-microbial resistance and promotion of oral health care for people with HIV infection and they will also shed light on the link between economic crisis and oral health care. Finally, a presentation of the SHIPSAN ACT Joint Action and the European experience will take place, as this Action supports the implementation of International Health Regulations and it is very important for maritime transport.
Representatives of the European Union, the World Health Organization and the European Commission will participate at the Meeting. Greek Health Minister Spyridon – Adonis Georgiadis, Deputy Health Minister Zetta Makri and WHO Regional Director for Europe Zsuzsanna Jakab will address, among other, the Meeting at the opening.
