The Informal Maritime Ministerial Meeting of EU Member States and EEA Countries will take place on Wednesday, 7 May 2014, at Zappeion Megaron. The main item on the agenda is the “Mid-tern Review of the EU’s Maritime Transport Policy until 2018 and Outlook to 2020” and the adoption of the “Athens Declaration”.
The meeting, chaired by Greek Minister of Shipping Maritime Affairs & the Aegean, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, will be attended by the Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Transport, Siim Kallas, officials of the European Commission, as well as EU Member States and EEA Countries’ ministers and high-ranking officials responsible for maritime transport issues.
The Secretary-General of the IMO, Mr Koji Sekimizu, will also attend the meeting and will participate, as the Presidency’s guest of honour, at the working lunch taking place in the context of the Informal Maritime Ministerial Meeting. The theme to be discussed is “IMO Conventions: Effective Implementation”- the same as the IMO’s theme for World Maritime Day 2014.
