Public Discussion on Digital Citizenship and Press Freedom

World Press Freedom Day, is celebrated, annually, in May. On this occasion, an experimental academic Public Entities Synergy, educating professional journalists in Vienna and Athens, in cooperation with the Hellenic General Secretariat of Mass media, is attempting to bring attention to what they call "The New Alphabet of Digital Citizenship".

It entices citizens, both live (this Monday, June 2, at 10:00 am) and through social media / streaming video, to participate in a public discussion to take place in "Technopolis" where distinguished guests from around Europe shall introduce and share views on  "issues of paramount and increasing importance to societies and everyday digital life", like Propaganda, Privacy and Press Freedom, creatively tagging all related activities under 3P and 3PR.

Organizers include but are not limited to Austrian University DUK, Research Center Athena (General Secretariat for Research/Technology, Hellenic Ministry of Education), Secretariat General of Mass Media, Foundation for Journalism Excellence A.B. Botsis, Communication and Mass Media Technology Lab of NTUA, activelly supported by DEI, Euronews, Kathimerini, Athenian + Macedonian Press Agency a.o.

This initiative is under the aegis of the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and is being supported by major media and organizations like 'Kathimerini', 'Euronews', DEI a.o. The Synergy is being activated for the 3rd year in a row, on the Press Freedom Day occasion, involving its students and academics to what they consider "A high priority reminder on the skills / awareness necessary to decipher and understand citizenship, in the digital age".
