The Greek Presidency of the Council of the European Union, in cooperation with the European Parliament presents in Strasbourg, the sound sculpture "Tintinnabullum Europeanum", by the artist Eleni Fotiadou, an artwork that reflects common European values.

Tintinnabullum is inspired by the potential unifying role of the European Union through a common culture that now more than ever is strongly claimed. The artwork  responds to the classical law of physics that “Things synchronized in tone, resonate”.

Twenty-eight tones, algorithmically deriving from the national anthems of the ΕU Member-States, are transferred to 28 sonic tubes in peripheral placement, following the chronological order of the EU Members integration and the EU Council rotation. The suspended construction is partially encased in a floating larger acoustic tube, echoing the tonal EU Anthem.

Eleni Fotiadou is a Greek, London based audiovisual artist and jurist. She has had various participations and solo exhibitions, mainly in public spaces.

The artwork is going to be presented in the course of the European Youth Event 2014, taking place in Strasbourg, on 8-11 May. It was inaugurated at the entrance of the European Parliament building in Strasbourg, on 15 April, in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Evangelos Venizelos, the Deputy Foreign Minister, Dimitris Kourkoulas, and the Vice President of the European Parliament, Anni Podimata.
