Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos met with Romania’s Foreign Minister Titus Corlăţean, in Athens, on 15 November 2013. Reaffirming the good bilateral relations between the two countries, the ministers discussed issues on the regional, European and international agenda, among which Greece’s priorities for its upcoming presidency of the Council of the EU.
At a joint press conference following their meeting, Foreign Minister Venizelos referred to, among other things, the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), of which Romania holds the chairmanship-in-office this year. He noted that a meeting between the Greek presidency of the EU and the Romanian chairmanship of SEECP, to take place in Thessaloniki in the first half of 2014, will offer the opportunity to coordinate activities.
On his part, Romania’s Foreign minister Corlăţean affirmed his country’s support for the priorities of the upcoming Greek presidency of the Council of the EU, their emphasis on boosting economic growth and youth employment across Europe, strengthening the economic and monetary union, the management of migration issues as well as the integrated maritime policy goals. “These are fundamental principles and priorities which Romania supports,” Corlăţean noted.
