The works of the Informal Meeting of Defence Policy Directors of EU Member-States, which took place at the Ministry of National Defence on 23-24 January 2014, in the context of the Greek Presidency of the Council of the European Union, are completed.

Several senior officials of the European Union’s Common Security and Defence Policy, representatives of the European Council, the Chief Executive of the European Defence Agency and Defence Policy Directors of EU Member-States participated in the meeting.

The discussions focalised on the development of a road map for the achievement of the Conclusions of the European Council of December 2013, in view of the forthcoming meeting of EU Defence Ministers, which will take place on February 20-21 at the Zappeion Megaron.

Due emphasis was put on the development of European military capabilities. Moreover, issues concerning EU Common Security and Defence Policy, giving attention to the development of military capabilities in EU operations and missions taking place worldwide, in the course towards the completion of of a European Union Maritime Security Strategy, the comprehensive approach and the enhancement of the European Defence Industry, were also discussed.

Finally, the situation in the Central African Republic and the intended deployment of EU’s mission was at the heart of the discussions.
