"Athens Declaration" sets EU future maritime transport policy priorities

The “Mid-term Review of the EU’s Maritime Transport Policy until 2018 and Outlook to 2020” constituted the theme of the Informal Maritime Ministerial Meeting of the EU Member States and EEA Countries, which took place on Wednesday, 7 May 2014, at Zappeion Megaron, within the context of the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU which adopted the “Athens Declaration”.

EU road safety challenges to be discussed in Athens (Zappeion, 8 May 2014)

“Current road safety challenges for smart infrastructure development” will be the focus of the ministerial debate during the informal Council of Ministers for Transport of EU and EEA member states that will take place at Zappeion on Thursday, 8 May 2014, chaired by the Greek minister for Infrastructure, Transport & Networks Mr Michalis Chrisochoidis. The vice president of the European Commission and commissioner for Transport Mr. Siim Kallas will also participate, along with European Commission officers, ministers and high-rank officials for transport issues from EU and EEA member states.

Building up clean fuel infrastructure across the EU

The member states' permanent representatives today endorsed the compromise reached between the Council and the European Parliament concerning a directive on building up minimum infrastructure for alternative fuels across the EU.

eCall system: saving lives on European roads

The member states' permanent representatives today (19.3.2014) endorsed the compromise reached between the Council and the European Parliament concerning a decision to introduce a mandatory EU-wide system to handle emergency calls sent automatically by cars or triggered manually by people in the car in case of a crash (eCalls).

Council agrees its position on the European Railway Agency

The Council today agreed a general approach regarding a proposal aimed at defining new tasks of the European Railway Agency to reflect its future stronger role in safety certification and vehicle authorisation.

The Greek Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks, Michalis Chrisochoidis, chaired the Council in which Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks, Michalis Papadopoulos also participated.

Transport issues to be discussed at the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council

The meeting, which will be chaired by the Greek Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks Michalis Chrisochoidis , will start at 10.00 CET.
 
First, the Council will be asked to agree on a general approach regarding a proposal intended to define new tasks to be carried out by the European Railway Agency. The draft regulation is part of the fourth railway package.

Council adopts guidelines for trans-European Telecommunications networks

The Council today adopted a regulation on guidelines for the deployment and interoperability of telecommunications infrastructure projects of common interest in the field of trans-European telecommunications networks. Today's decision follows an agreement reached at first reading with the European Parliament which held its vote at the plenary session of 26 February 2014.

Inland navigation: New regulation promoting inland waterway transport

The member states' permanent representatives endorsed today (7.3.2014)  the compromise reached between the Council and the European Parliament concerning an updated regulation on a Community fleet capacity policy to promote inland waterway transport.

The new text also provides for measures to strengthen the organisations representing inland waterway transport at EU level. The sector currently suffers from fragmentation, and stronger Union-wide organisations can help to mitigate this.

Marine Pollution taken seriously: new regulation to strengthen EMSA response mechanism (7.3.2014)

The member states' permanent representatives endorsed today (7.3.2014) the compromise reached between the Council and the European Parliament concerning a regulation to finance the actions of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) in the field of response to marine pollution caused by ships and oil and gas installations in the years 2014 to 2020.
